Merthyr Views

The award-winning Merthyr Views was made by a group of talented young people from the Forsythia Youth Project in the Gurnos Estate, Merthyr Tydfil. The aim of this Arts Council of Wales funded project was to explore cultural stereotypes; all too often housing estates like the Gurnos have legendary levels of notoriety for being bad places to live. In collaboration with Winding Snake Productions the young people produced the film’s lyrics and created the animation to represent their perspectives on growing up in the Gurnos. The film won the Best Animation award at the Kids4Kids Film Festival held at the British Film Institute in October 2012. In addition, the film was nominated for a further award at the 2012 Bradford Animation Festival.

Additional support for this project was provided by Film Agency Wales, Chapter Arts and National Museums Wales.
